When you move out on your own in your twenties, you look for solutions, you chase practicality, you welcome objects for what they offer: they are not much more than a function, which often starts out as a temporary support but then lasts some time longer. We adapt, we improvise, but then, almost without realizing it, something changes.

In our thirties we begin to feel the desire to live in a space that is not only useful, but intimate, capable of telling who we have become and who we are still becoming, a space where we can receive friends in a style that represents us. In short, a place that is truly home and that not only responds to needs, but also welcomes emotions, desires and care for even the smallest things.

The rush to decorate gives way to the pleasure of waiting, of calmly looking for what really looks like us.

From the tablecloths on the table, to the carefully chosen pillows, through the dishes that always return to their place after use, those we choose are not mere objects but part of daily gestures that become statements of identity.

If you recognize yourself in this change, I have prepared a list of things that in my experience will help you transform your apartment into a jewel of style and personality.

1. A table for you (and those you love to invite)

One of the first things I learned when I moved out on my own is that the table is not just set for guests but also for yourself!  The perspective of a lonely lunch changes if we attend to the details of a table set with lovingly chosen objects, and even the simplest dish like a salad tastes different if we cook it in a space where we feel comfortable.

Right from the morning, the choice of objects that appease our desire for beauty and quality will be reflected in the choice of everyday items, such as coffee mugs but also stain-resistant linen placemats, with which to set breakfast or a quick but neat lunch. Even the choice of plates or a beautiful glass worked between the hands is enough to change the energy of a lunch.

Of course, in your thirties you would gladly invite friends over for a night out! So equip your home with everything you need to receive friends in style. Don't fall back on paper tableware but choose a well-stocked set of plates, glasses and cutlery so that you never have to say no to a friend who joins at the last minute. Occasions such as Christmas or a birthday are a perfect opportunity to get a gift or treat yourself to a beautiful tablecloth to set the table with extensions for your dinner parties!

To bring to life a home full of character, I recommend combining vintage and other designer objects. Taking advantage of travel, flea markets and a few well-considered purchases will lead you to create a home that can tell the story of your style

Your home, as well as your wardrobe, requires the same effort you use to study your outfit. Choose your style and calmly build your color palette, then select accessories

Match patterns as you would a look: neutral, mellow hues if you want a minimal, chic look. Stripes and florals, bright hues and details if you're feeling more histrionic. The table doesn't always have to be perfect, but always yours. And if you love uncompromising elegance, check out our Amalfi line: tailored embroidery, linen and details that speak of you.

Personally, I love playing with contrasts: an understated runner, perhaps in barbed fabric, juxtaposed with handmade or antique plates matched thanks to a detail that brings them together; linen napkins with tailored embroidery, and transparent glasses alternating with colored ones.

Helpful tip: Keep two sets on hand-one lighter, to use as an elegant and discreet base, and one with a more graphic pattern for when you're in the mood for something more assertive. And if you want an extra touch, choose embroidered linen underplates, easy to store but capable of transforming any table.

2. How to create a cozy room: natural textiles, soothing palettes and small comfort details

There is nothing better than returning to a comfortable home in the evening, and your bedroom with your bed is certainly one of the rooms that deserves the most care. Slipping into fresh sheets after a busy day is reassuring and fulfilling. My advice? Start with a pair of washed linen sheet sets. They smell wonderful and soften with each wash. The colors available are mellow and modern and can set a tone of legance to your private space. Add a few pillows, a comforter cover in the colors you love, and you're done.

The shades? The ones that make you feel good: from light neutrals like putty beige to the many shades of gray to darker, more enveloping colors like charcoal, navy blue or oxide green. And don't forget that the bed should also look good during the day; just seeing it neat, with light playing on the fabrics, can change the mood of a day.

The helpful tip: light linen or gauze curtains will let the light filter in softly, creating a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. And if the room is small, they help expand it visually with elegance and lightness.

3. Small gestures to turn your bathroom into an oasis of daily well-being

The bathroom, in its thirties, stops being merely functional and becomes a small spa dedicated to ourselves, where beauty infiltrates between a clean mirror and a lit candle.

A few elements suffice: neatly folded washcloths, scented soaps in amber bottles, a ceramic soap dish, and a bouquet of fresh or dried flowers on the sink. Every detail is a daily caress. If you want to add a little extra character, a tray with three well-chosen items is enough to instantly give even the most basic bathroom a soul.

Helpful tip: Choose two sets of compact, good-weight terry towels. They're enough to make you feel like you're in a suite every day, but with the authentic soul of your home. The palette? Neutral shades that dialogue with each other: putty, milk, ice, warm gray.

 4. Cooking in your 30s: what it really takes to live it with style and awareness

Certainly compared to 20 years now is the time to upgrade on kitchen equipment! You don't need a thousand tools, just the right ones: a quality steel casserole dish, a set of well-sharpened knives (at least three: chef, bread, small), a solid cutting board, perhaps made of olive wood. And then an appliance that, in addition to working, you like to keep in sight: a chrome-plated blender, a cream-colored coffee maker, a planetary machine that looks like a design object.

Don't forget the textiles: thick potholders with tailored seams, soft linen dishcloths , bread baskets lined with washable fabric, the details that make the kitchen not only functional, but yours.

Helpful tip: Create an always-ready appetizer area. A small tray with two glasses, a cheese knife, two ceramic saucers and an embroidered napkin. Even if the guest is just you, welcome yourself properly.

 5. A space to live and show: how to furnish the living room with personality and harmony

The living room is perhaps the room that most of all tells the story of how we live at home. It is where we receive, read, watch a movie, take a break after a busy day. But it is also the space where taste and creativity can be expressed most freely, through choices that combine beauty and comfort.

The starting point is always the same: a comfortable, cozy sofa upholstered in a natural fabric that restores a feeling of warmth and authenticity. Washed linen, bouclé or chunky cotton are perfect for giving character without weighing it down.

Add velvet linen pillows, the latest furniture trends see the return of soft bangs as a nice touch to a decor that communicates elegance. Alternate solid colors and small graphic patterns, a plaid to keep on hand, and a blanket to be carefully rolled up, ready to use.  A lamp with a stage presence cannot be missed. Whether it's a floor lamp with a metal frame and linen shade, a table lamp with a sculptural base, or a hanging light made of worked glass, choose an object that, even when off, has aesthetic value and helps define the space.

Center stage, the classic coffee table becomes a small home gallery: it's the perfect place to house your most beautiful books on art design, photography or travel . Choose a beautiful glass vase in which to place the flowers you give yourself or that visiting friends bring you. Buy a scented candle that will give a hint of refined fragrance to your home and warm the atmosphere. The coffee table is also the piece of furniture on which to place special items that remind you of your last trip, or some framed photos of your happiest days. They will also offer you a cue to chat with your guests.... Each object tells a detail about you, your taste, your home.

Helpful tip: Choose an interesting object with personality that will give character to the room without needing major intervention. It can be a framed art print, a vintage bentwood chair, or an intensely colored blown glass vase. A piece that, every time you look at it, reminds you why you love being there.

 6. Corners that look like you, even in a few square meters

Every home has its own smell, the scent of wood, laundry, coffee in the morning. But not only that, because we can also choose one that resembles us and makes us feel serene: a lit candle on the bedside table, an amber soap in the shower, a citrus diffuser in the hall. The scent is perhaps the most underestimated detail but also the most powerful: it is the one that lingers in the memory, welcoming those who enter and accompanying those who leave. I chose a mix of fresh linen, tea rose, and wood. But you can choose what makes you feel good: something that makes you say, as soon as you open the door here I am, I'm home.

The helpful tip: Keep a little scented corner in your bathroom too,a bowl of dried petals, a vintage bottle with essential oils, a scented bar of soap on a porcelain saucer. A small detail that makes your bathroom unique.

In short, the perfect home doesn't exist, but luckily there is one that is right for us, and it is one that grows, changes, evolves with the way you are. Don't try to finish everything right away, start with what you love, the fabrics you caress, the light that comes in in the morning and makes you smile. Every tablecloth laid, every pillow arranged, every glass filled with tea or wine are small acts of daily beauty. And that, after all, is where happiness lies: in living each day in a place that looks like you.

7. The scent of your home: an invisible signature

You don't need large spaces to have great atmospheres; you can let your imagination run free even in a studio apartment, even with a ficus plant and a rug laid crooked.

What matters is that each corner has a touch that tells about you: for example, I have a reading corner with an old reclaimed armchair, a washed linen plaid and a small table with a candle. It's not big, but it's a small space that I really feel is mine. The same goes for the desk, the shelf in the kitchen, the entryway. Let your home tell the story of who you are, even with a photograph hung with a clip or a vase filled with olive branches. You don't have to do everything right away: build it over time, like a story that grows with you.

The helpful tip: Make a list of heart objects you want to look for in the coming months: a vintage chair, a linen blanket, a painting. Don't buy them to fill, but to fall in love with them.
